The Limestone Coast region consists of a number of separate wine growing areas due to its almost perfect wine growing conditions of a Mediterranean climate, ample water and its rich terra rossa soil.  A popular tourist destination, the Limestone Coast has a number of quality wine regions worth exploring.

The Coonawarra wine region is located 20 minutes south of Naracoorte is known for its world class Cabernet Sauvignon and Coonawarra Shiraz.. Coonawarra wineries have perfect terra rossa soil and an unnaturally high pure underground water table and a long cool ripening season. For over a century premium grapes have been grown here.
The Coonawarra wine region is blessed with an unnaturally high table of pure water that creates ideal growing conditions for the vines that grow in a comparatively temperate climate that is often compared to that of Bordeaux, having long mild summers with cool autumns and cold winters.

The Padthaway wine region excels in sparkling white wines and red and white table wines. Padthaway has also been blessed by Mother Nature, making it an ideal place to establish vineyards, at least that’s what the combination of multi-national companies and private growers that occupy the region think and the quality wines produced here prove it. Predominant varieties include Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir.

Wrattonbully wine region has had success with their Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. The 2000 hectares of this region also have terra rossa soil and abundant water enabling it to produce premium wines. Wrattonbully lies between the districts of Padthaway and the Coonawarra, an exciting new region it offers more than 45 producers of quality wines

Mt Benson wine region is worth a look with its citrus tang white wines and delightful fragrant reds. red sandy loam soils , high quality water, mild maritime climate and relatively low frost risk make for ideal growing conditions. A new region established in 1989 it is located between the coastal towns of Robe and Kingston SE

Sauvignon Blanc and fine Chardonnay .
